The Detroit News is reporting today that 25 year old Melanie James was riding her bike along Gratiot at 27 Mile Road when she was struck from behind shortly after 11 o'clock.

The suspect, said to be driving a 1990 Geo Tracker, fed the scene on foot.  The vehicle was traced back to a 30 year old Richmond Township man.

A search of the area found a man hiding under a blanket in the back of a motor home.  He was taken into custody.

Officials say they believe alcohol played a role in the crash.
