It's kind of a good news, bad news situation for customers of Lansing's Board of Water and Light. WLNS.com reports that the utility may have to increase its rates as it gets ready to shut down and replace its Eckert Station Plant.

The good news is, BWL told city leaders that residents have not seen an increase yet, customers and an increase may not be necessary. However, if extra funds are needed, customers will not be subjected to a major increase all at once. Any increase in rates would be a gradual process.

According to the story, BWL has not finalized costs on the new replacement plant for Eckert. Therefore, the utility cannot be definite on whether an increase of rates will be needed.
