Eric Knysz was found unresponsive in a holding cell at a Jackson processing center earlier this week.  Officials say while there is no hope for his recovery, they are looking to see whether he would be considered an acceptable organ donor.

Knysz was sentenced just last week to life without the chance of parole for the death of Michigan State Police Trooper Paul Butterfield in Mason County last year.  WOOD TV in Grand Rapids is reporting that while he was on a suicide watch in the jail there, reports indicate that was not the case after being transferred.

Those with the Michigan Department of Corrections have been unavailable for comment on the story.  The report also indicates that Michigan State Police investigators looking into the incident have refused comment referring media inquiries to the Corrections Department.

MLive.com is reporting that Knysz was at the Charles Egeler Reception and Guidance Center in Jackson since last Thursday.  He was sentenced on April 8th.
