Ingham County officials sent out notifications to county residents, forewarning them of an unexpected, major road closure in Meridian Township for Thursday.

Southbound Okemos Road will be close between Hamilton Road and Mount Hope Avenue starting at 8:30 AM Thursday morning. Consumers Energy crews are working to move utility lines that feed power to all of Meridian Township to new utility poles, forcing the closure. Okemos Road is expected to be completely closed to southbound traffic until approximately 4:00 PM Thursday afternoon, according to the alert. This will leave Dobie Road and Hagadorn Road as the only southbound road ways across the Red Cedar River in Meridian Township.

Northbound lanes were closed for a few hours Wednesday due to the same project.
