WLNS.com is reporting that the Lansing Regional Chamber and Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero have exchanged harsh words back and forth over the condition of Michigan Avenue through the east side of the city.

According to the story, the Chamber sent a letter to the mayor and Lansing City Council demanding that something be done to repair one of the city's main traffic arteries and business gauntlet. In its the letter, the chamber criticized the lack of effort to keep Michigan Avenue's infrastructure in line with the mass amount of new developments along the stretch between Pennsylvania Avenue and US-127. The Chamber also said that the roadway's condition is a black eye to region's image.

Mayor Bernero reportedly fired back at the Chamber Monday afternoon in a note in which Bernero criticized Chamber leadership for not doing their homework before taking a written stance. Bernero said that if officials had inquired with the city before sending a written demand, then the Chamber would know that the roadway is slated for reconstruction beginning in October.
