Senator Vincent Gregory, a Democrat from Southfield, has proposed legislation to award businesses up to $4,000 in tax credits to hire unemployed veterans.
According to the Associated Press, The Hire MI Heros Act has bipartisan support and will be introduced as legislation soon.
Gregory is a Vietnam veteran and he is the lead sponsor of the bill. He said "both veterans and small businesses win," in a recent press release about the proposed bill.
The new legislation would allow companies who hire an unemployed veteran to claim 25 percent of their salary up to $4,000.
