Breaking News.....The United States Supreme Court, issuing a ruling today on a controversial issue affecting Michigan--whether the state's ban on affirmative action is legal.

The justices, in a 6-2 decision, struck down a lower court ruling that ruled the ban, which was approved by voters in 2006, was unconstitutional.

Groups that had been fighting the ban say it has resulted in a decline in minority enrollments at schools like the University of Michigan.  Even before today's ruling, both sides said they would get together to find ways to increase the number of  non-white students attending the school.
