Michigan National Guard members have been in and out of the eye of the Ebola storm in West Africa over the past few weeks.

Michigan’s National Guard has had an ongoing relationship with Liberia since 2010. Michigan Guardsman are helping with teaching the Liberian military about terrorism, tactics and security among other things. At least two Michigan National Guard members were in Monrovia, Liberia this month raising the question of possible exposure to the often deadly Ebola virus.

The concern with members on duty there this month is could the Ebola virus catch a ride and be brought back to the heartland of America.

It is unclear how many members of the Michigan National Guard are in Liberia today or if they have all returned home.

So far more than 1200 people have been infected with the Ebola virus over the past few weeks. More than 670 are confirmed to have died. Ebola can have a fatality rate of 90%. Ebola has no treatment and no cure.

We wil be following this story closely to determine what possible threat may exist here.
