By now many of you have heard of the attack against a police officer at Flint’s Bishop International Airport.

The FBI has stated they are investigating this incident as an “act of terrorism”.

Merriam Webster dictionary defines terrorism as:

the systematic use of terror especially as a means of coercion

The Oxford dictionary defines terrorism as:

The unlawful use of violence and intimidation, especially against civilians, in the pursuit of political aims

The Oxford dictionary states that the origin of the word is from the Late 18th century (in reference to the rule of the Jacobin faction during the period of the French Revolution known as the Terror): from French terrorisme, from Latin terror.

According to reports the suspect is a 50 year old Canadian man, Amor Ftouh, who is originally from Tunisia.  He did enter the United States legally through Lake Champlain, New York, on June 16 before heading to Flint.

Why did he come to Flint we do not know?

The Detroit News as well as other news sources are stating that before he stabbed the officer he yelled “Allahu Akbar” which translates to mean “God is great” in Arabic.

FBI Special Agent Thomas Sondgeroth in an affidavit:

He further exclaimed something similar to ‘You have killed people in Syria, Iraq, and Afghanistan, and we are all going to die

To date the FBI said he appeared to have acted alone.

The Flint Islamic Center officials denounced the violence and have planned to hold an interfaith prayer vigil for Thursday evening.  In the Detroit News article the president of the Flint Islamic Center stated:

What happened this morning was a despicable act of violence that cannot be justified under any circumstance. We as the people of Flint must remain united against such senseless acts of violence against anyone, and in particular against any law enforcement officers. We will not allow others with their own political agendas to divide us

Some experts and politicians are saying this is something we need to grow accustomed to, though I ask the question is it?

It is good to hear what the Flint Islamic Center said, if this does bear out to be terrorism in the name of Islam by this extremist then I hope that the imam’s and heads of these mosques and Islamic centers pronounce this type of behavior is against the Quran and Allah and the people who perpetrate these acts will go to hell.

We need help from Muslim’s to fight this type of hatred and violence because in the end it is them who will bear the brunt of the shame.  I say this only if they do not come out and denounce this to be against the Quran and Allah.

The question is will they in mass?
