The Michigan Department of Transportation website says that a major freeway reconstruction project is scheduled to begin Monday, July 9 in Jackson County.

I-94 will be completely overhauled between M-60 and Sargent Road. As a part of the project, the freeway will be completely rebuilt and widened between Lansing Avenue and Elm Road, the Cooper Street intersection will be rebuilt with new roundabouts at the interchange ramps, a new bridge will be built over the Grand River, and the entire span will be resurfaced.

This video from MDOT shows the details.

MDOT expects to maintain two lanes of traffic in each direction for most of the project's duration. However, some single lane closures will be necessary at some points in time.

The project is scheduled for completion in spring 2020. For full details, visit this link to MDOT's website.
